The history of St. Montfort ITC dates back to the Brothers' arrival in Khandwa diocese in 1987 to look after a hostel, for the SC/ST Catholic boys, owned and run by the diocese. The Brothers did not perhaps think then, even in their wildest of dreams that one day, the first technical training centre of the province would be set up at this mission.
Meanwhile, the Bishop of Khandwa, Dr. Abraham Viruthukulangara, had been nurturing a dream of his own to have a technical training centre in his diocese to benefit his flock, mostly tribal and scheduled castes. In 1992, the Provincial Superior of the Delhi Province spoke to the Brothers about and need for vocational education for those students from a rural or underprivileged background to help them earn a livelihood. An agreement was reached between the Brothers and the diocese in 1993 and the Provincial Administration made a decision in principle to start a technical institution at Khandwa. Bro. John of S.H., Bro. M.M.Francis& Bro. Raymond joined their hands to begin the task.
In the year 1996, the nonformal training to train boys and girls in welding, carpentry, shorthand-typing, driving, tailoring, secretarial practice, and screen printing began in an old shed in the church compound near the clergy as a hostel for the vocational training, till other resources were found for a better and more spacious shed/ building. Bro. Antony Kuriakose, Bro. Shaji Thomas and Bro. Chacko got involved fully for the non-formal training program.
The foundation was laid on July 01, 1999, in the presence of the Provincial Superior, Bro. Jose Thottiyil and Bro. Philip Thadathil. The building was completed to begin classes in computer education, and welding under a formal stream by June 2001. Another two courses Stenography (Hindi) & Cutting/ Sewing were started in 2003, after getting affiliation by DGE&T, New Delhi.
